rdesktop freezing, stalling, lock up, halt, xorg, ati, amd, x86_64

I have been experiencing some lockups with rdesktop that required me to restart Xorg in order to reconnect. In searching for the solution I tried seeing if rdesktop was the culprit(no), or xorg(no), or my ATI video card(no), or my AMD x86_64 processor(no).

Instead, if you’re connecting via wireless, check to see if your /var/log/messages(or other logs for that matter) have any complaints from your wireless adapter about TKIP. If so, it’s causing kernel panics and is causing Xorg to freak out which then kills the rdesktop connection.

Change your settings on your router to use AES only and you should be fine. The problem is in the STA drivers and while it will likely be fixed soon, it’s still better to simply use AES since it’s more secure.
